Penn Law National Lawyers Guild, the Pardon Project, and YAP are co-hosting a panel discussion on the false dichotomy between nonviolent and violent crime. Many people call for lower sentences for those whose crimes have been considered “nonviolent” while failing to seek reform for those whose crimes have been considered “violent.” This panel seeks to expose how this dichotomy ignores the root causes of mass incarceration, blocks meaningful transformation of the criminal justice system and the punishment paradigm, and fails to fully address issues of harm and violence and healing.
